Gumi City Selected as National Top Grade for Aerial Cable Maintenance Project for 3 Consecutive Years
Secured 7.1 Billion KRW in Project Funds, 1.43 Billion KRW Increase from Last Year
KEPCO and 7 Telecom Companies Form Regional Council to Promote Maintenance Project
Gumi City was selected as the top nationwide grade for three consecutive years in the local government implementation performance evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT for the 2023 overhead cable maintenance project carried out in 24 areas including Goa-eup.
As a result, Gumi City secured an increased project budget of 1.43 billion KRW (from 5.7 billion to 7.13 billion KRW) and plans to accelerate the maintenance project this year as well.
The overhead cable maintenance project is aimed at neatly organizing overhead cables such as electric wires and communication lines that are disorderly installed on utility poles around roads and residential areas, which could lead to accidents.
Electric wires installed improperly and indiscriminately extended communication lines damage the cityscape and cause electric leakage and various safety accidents. To solve these problems, the city has formed an overhead cable regional council with Korea Electric Power Corporation, broadcasting and communication operators, and selects sections that require intensive maintenance every year to promote the project.
In January, the project areas will be selected, and after collecting residents' opinions, councils composed of residents, public officials, and experts for each target area will be organized and operated to ensure the successful promotion of the maintenance project, along with strengthened public relations for citizens.
