Successors to Former Supreme Court Justices Ahn Cheol-sang and Min Yoo-sook, 42 Candidates Announced... Opinions Accepted Until the 15th
The list of 42 candidates to succeed former Supreme Court Justices Ahn Cheol-sang and Min Yoo-sook has been released.
On the 4th, the Supreme Court disclosed 39 judges and 7 lawyers who agreed to the review by the Supreme Court Justice Candidate Recommendation Committee out of the 74 nominees received.
Among the senior judges, names include Park Young-jae, Deputy Director of the Court Administration Office; Yoon Joon, Chief Judge of the Seoul High Court; Kim Yong-seok, Chief Judge of the Patent Court; Bae Gi-yeol, Chief Judge of the Gwangju High Court; Kim Soo-il, Chief Judge of the Jeju District Court; Oh Jae-sung, Chief Judge of the Jeonju District Court; Park Hyung-soon, Chief Judge of the Seoul Northern District Court; and Kim Moon-gwan, Senior Presiding Judge of the Busan High Court.
Among the high court presiding judges, Kang Seung-jun, Koo Hoe-geun, Kim Kwang-tae, Kim Dae-woong, Noh Kyung-pil, Ma Yong-joo, Bae Jun-hyun, Sung Soo-je, Shin Dong-heon, Shim Jun-bo, Eom Sang-pil, Oh Young-jun, Yoon Kang-yeol, Lee Kwang-man, Lee Seung-ryeon, Lee Chang-hyung, Jung Joon-young, Han Kyu-hyun, Ham Sang-hoon, and Hong Dong-gi agreed to the review.
Among those who agreed to the review, seven are women: Judge Park Soon-young of the Seoul High Court, Shin Sook-hee, Standing Member of the Sentencing Commission, Woo Ra-ok, Presiding Judge of the Incheon District Court, Yoon Seung-eun, Director of the Court Library, Lee Sook-yeon, High Court Judge of the Patent Court, Jung Gye-seon, Presiding Judge of the Seoul Southern District Court, and lawyer Hwang Eun-young.
The Supreme Court plans to collect opinions from the 5th to the 15th of this month. Anyone can check the educational background, major career, assets, and other information of the 42 candidates and submit opinions. After collecting opinions, the Supreme Court Justice Candidate Recommendation Committee will recommend more than three times the number of candidates to be appointed, and Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae will select two from among them and recommend them to President Yoon Seok-yeol.
The chairperson of the recommendation committee is Lee Kwang-hyung, President of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Ex officio members include Senior Justice Kim Seon-su, Director of the Court Administration Office Kim Sang-hwan, Deputy Minister of Justice Lee No-gong, President of the Korean Bar Association Kim Young-hoon, President of the Korean Association of Law Professors Cho Hong-sik, and Chairman of the Council of Law Schools Lee Sang-kyung.

Among the non-ex officio external members are President Lee, Moon Jin-heon, CEO of Naeil Newspaper, and Professor Cho So-young of the Pusan National University Law School. Judge Ahn Eun-ji of the Changwon District Court was appointed as a judicial member.
