Suspect in 'Lee Jae-myung Assault' Born in 1957... Police Apply Attempted Murder Charges
The suspect who ambushed Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, during his visit to Busan on the 2nd has been identified as Kim, a man in his 60s residing in Chungnam. Kim stated in police interrogation that he intended to kill Lee.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Special Investigation Headquarters announced that they are investigating Kim on charges of attempted murder.
Kim is accused of stabbing Lee in the left side of his neck with a bladed weapon around 10:29 a.m. after Lee finished inspecting the Daehang Observatory in Gangseo-gu, Busan.
Immediately after the attack, Kim was arrested on the spot by Democratic Party officials and police officers near Lee. He told the police that his motive was "to kill Leader Lee Jae-myung."
The police stated that Kim resides in Chungnam, and they are currently verifying his party membership status and occupation.
According to the police investigation, Kim concealed an 18 cm long bladed weapon in his jacket at the time of the crime and drew it to stab Lee. It was confirmed that he purchased the weapon online last year and has no significant prior criminal record.

The police have formed a special investigation team of 69 members to investigate the specific motive and other details before deciding on Kim's legal disposition.
