Nudge Healthcare Conducts Cashwalk Public Interest Challenge

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has once again taken action to revive domestic wheat in Gurye-gun, where the movement to save domestic wheat began in 1991.

As of 2020, the domestic demand for wheat is about 2.23 million tons, but the amount of domestic wheat produced is only 15,000 tons, resulting in a wheat self-sufficiency rate of about 0.7%, which has dropped to less than half compared to 1.8% in 2016.

Since domestic wheat production is directly related to food security, the government is also promoting policies aiming to achieve a 10% wheat self-sufficiency rate by 2030, but the situation remains challenging.

Accordingly, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do, which has preserved domestic wheat along with its history, has started a new movement to revive domestic wheat once again.

The county is promoting a public interest challenge to raise awareness of the importance of domestic wheat through the health management app ‘Cashwalk’ operated by Nudge Healthcare Co., Ltd.

This challenge is a walking challenge where the entire nation steps on wheat sprouts. It was inspired by the winter practice where farmers would firmly step on wheat sprouts to help them grow well.

Participation in the challenge is available through the ‘Teamwork’ section within the Cashwalk application and will be held for seven days from January 3 to January 9, 2024. Participants who achieve 6,000 steps per day will receive up to 10,000 cash, and the first 50,000 people who accumulate 30,000 steps will receive a 20% discount coupon for a domestic wheat gift set.

A county official said, “Gurye-gun is where the movement to save domestic wheat first started. Domestic wheat farmers, processing factories, bakeries, and restaurants are all protecting domestic wheat throughout the area,” adding, “We hope that through this challenge, the entire nation will recognize the importance and advantages of domestic wheat, thereby promoting its consumption.”
