Suncheon City Commits to a 'Fresh Start' in the Year of the Blue Dragon 2024

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu to Propel Namhaean Belt as a Hub City

Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced that on New Year's Day, a sunrise event for the year 2024, the Gapjin Year (Year of the Blue Dragon), was held at Green Island along Dongcheon, which was upgraded to a national river, with the participation of over 5,000 citizens and tourists wishing for their New Year's hopes.

The event featured a performance celebrating Dongcheon’s upgrade to a national river, accompanied by a vigorous traditional drum performance by the Gi (氣) Martial Arts Group. Activities included writing wishes on the Blue Dragon’s Yeouiju, sharing New Year's greetings, and on-site interviews to hear citizens’ New Year wishes directly.

National Assembly member So Byeong-cheol visited the Jukdobong sunrise event site to exchange greetings with citizens. After paying respects at the National Garden Memorial Tower and the Yeosu-Suncheon Uprising Monument, he started the New Year by promising to carefully consider the proposals from former Jeonnam Vice Governor Myeong Chang-hwan, Goheung County Mayor Gong Yeong-min, Damyang County Mayor Lee Byeong-no, and Sinan County Mayor Park Woo-ryang, who visited his office in Suncheon to suggest amendments to the Hometown Love Donation Act.

Meanwhile, on the 2nd, Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu held an anti-corruption and integrity pledge resolution meeting at the opening ceremony for the New Year’s administrative work, expressing his commitment to fair and transparent work processes, a clean and honest organizational culture, prohibition of bribery and gifts, and adherence to the public officials’ code of conduct.

Mayor Noh then stated, “In 2024, the Gapjin Year of the Blue Dragon, we will complete K-Disney Suncheon, moving toward the future with AI, and leap forward as a hub city of the South Coast Belt together with 280,000 citizens.”
