Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was attacked by an assailant during his visit to Busan on the 2nd and was transported to a hospital.
At around 10:27 a.m. that day, after inspecting the site of the new airport on Gadeokdo Island in Busan, Lee was conducting a Q&A session with reporters and moving to his vehicle when an unidentified man attacked him on the left side of his neck with a weapon, causing him to collapse.

The man approached Lee, pretending to be a supporter and asking for an autograph, extending a pen before attacking Lee with the concealed weapon. Lee reportedly sustained a laceration on his neck.
The police arrested the man who attacked Lee at the scene. The suspect is estimated to be in his 60s to 70s. The police confiscated the weapon the man was carrying and took him to the Gangseo Police Station in Busan.
Lee, who was conscious, received emergency treatment from the fire department and was airlifted to Busan National University Hospital. It is reported that Lee is undergoing emergency examinations by trauma medical staff.
