Chairman Han leads within margin of error for the first time
In a preference survey for the next presidential candidate, Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, has for the first time surpassed Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, within the margin of error.

View original imageAccording to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea on June 1 at the request of JoongAng Ilbo, when asked "Who do you think is a good political leader to lead our country in the future, that is, a prospective presidential candidate," 24% of respondents chose Chairman Han, while 22% selected Leader Lee. This is the first time Chairman Han has led Leader Lee in a Gallup survey.
Besides the two, former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok received 3%, former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon and Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo each received 2%, and Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, and Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Tan-hee each received 1%.
By age group, Chairman Han led among those in their 60s (41%) and those aged 70 and above (39%). Leader Lee had higher preference among people in their 50s (34%) and 40s (32%). Among those aged 18 to 29, Lee Jae-myung had 9%, Han Dong-hoon 8%, Hong Joon-pyo 5%, and Lee Jun-seok 4%.
By region, Chairman Han led in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (33%), Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong (31%), and Daegu and Gyeongbuk (30%). Leader Lee had strong support in Gwangju and Jeolla (39%) and Jeju (25%). In Seoul, Han Dong-hoon had 24% and Lee Jae-myung 22%, while in Incheon and Gyeonggi, Han Dong-hoon had 24% and Lee Jae-myung 27%.

This survey was conducted from May 28 to 29 nationwide among 1,017 men and women aged 18 and over using telephone interviews via mobile phones (virtual numbers). The response rate was 14.6%, and the sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
