Broadcast Service for Traditional Market and Small Business Products Starting This September
Why Do a University Professor and Students Host a ‘Live Commerce’ Broadcast Together?
Professor Jeong Mi-young of the Department of Media Communication at Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan), along with senior students Jang Ji-hoon and Choi Han-bin, has been running a live commerce broadcasting service since last September.
The university is actively practicing its motto of action and challenge, ‘Do-ing,’ as a project to revitalize the local economy.
Professor Jeong Mi-young was selected as a final prospective entrepreneur by the Korea Women’s Venture Association under the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development and received funding of 45 million KRW until the end of this year. The service introduced products from traditional markets and small and medium-sized merchants through live commerce broadcasts to boost the local economy.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, a live broadcasting production course for seniors was newly established to provide ideas for local economic revitalization, collaborating with talented students to create job opportunities and ignite economic activity for small and medium-sized merchants.
As CEO of J-Media (JM), Professor Jeong signed an MOU with the local channel LG HelloVision to give students practical opportunities such as on-site broadcasting experience and to develop their hands-on skills.
She also explained that TU mentoring was linked to help small and medium-sized merchants overcome difficulties in market development. Two seniors were hired as interns to work on-site, sourcing excellent products and producing promotional videos. For the first time nationwide, videos were produced with barrier-free audio descriptions for the hearing and visually impaired.
The professor’s entrepreneurial activities, which quickly respond to media trends, also increased interest among high school students in the department’s introduction and major experience.

Professor Jeong introduced a story branding called ‘Jeongdeuri’ (meaning ‘delivering sincerity’), which includes Matdeuri (delicious food), Meotdeuri (stylish products), and Dadeuri (offering all benefits during live commerce), expressing her desire to deliver excellent products.
