Snow Across the Country on the Last Weekend of the Year... Heavy Snow Warning for Seoul and the Capital Area
On Saturday the 30th, a heavy snow warning was issued across various parts of the country. On this last weekend of the year, it is mostly cloudy, and strong snowfall of 1 to 3 cm per hour is occurring in Seoul, the metropolitan area, and the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon. Due to the heavy snow, extra caution is required when driving on icy roads.
The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that as of 9 a.m. on the 30th, a heavy snow advisory will be issued for the northeastern, southwestern, and northwestern areas of Seoul. The affected districts include Nowon-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Jungnang-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Dobong-gu, Gangbuk-gu, Seongdong-gu (northeastern area), Gangseo-gu, Gwanak-gu, Yangcheon-gu, Guro-gu, Dongjak-gu, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Geumcheon-gu (southwestern area), Eunpyeong-gu, Mapo-gu, Seodaemun-gu, Yongsan-gu, Jongno-gu, Jung-gu (northwestern area).
Heavy snow advisories have also been issued in various parts of the metropolitan area including Incheon and Gyeonggi’s Bucheon, Namyangju, Uijeongbu, Gwangmyeong, Guri, Gapyeong, Goyang, Paju, Gimpo, Yangju, Pocheon, Dongducheon, and Yeoncheon. A heavy snow advisory is issued when snowfall is expected to accumulate 5 cm or more within 24 hours.
In Gangwon Province, 5 to 15 cm of snow (with more than 20 cm in the northern mountainous areas) is expected over the mountains, and 3 to 8 cm (with more than 10 cm in some areas) in the inland areas over the next two days starting from this day. Northern Chungnam is also expected to receive 1 to 3 cm of snow during the day.
