Vietnam is the Country with the Most Overseas Vehicle Calls
Kakao Mobility has released data on Kakao T's overseas mobility services for this year.
According to Kakao Mobility on the 29th, the 'Overseas Vehicle Call Service,' which allows users to hail vehicles abroad through the Kakao T application, has shown continuous growth. The region with the highest usage of the overseas vehicle call service was Vietnam, where the cumulative usage from the first to the third quarter of this year grew more than sevenfold compared to the same period last year. In Japan, the number of calls in January alone surpassed the total calls for 2022, showing a steep upward trend.
Analysis of Kakao T's overseas vehicle call and Guam taxi data revealed that the top five countries where users most frequently used vehicle call and reservation services were Vietnam, Japan, Guam, Thailand, and Singapore, in that order.
Further analysis of destinations designated in Kakao T's overseas mobility services by category confirmed that different travel patterns appeared depending on the characteristics of travel enjoyed in each country. In Vietnam, shopping and visits to tourist attractions were common; in Japan, transportation-related facilities such as airports and train stations ranked high; and in Guam, popular as a resort destination, hotels ranked highly in the category.
Additionally, analysis of Kakao T app usage by foreigners visiting Korea showed that as Korean culture is globally recognized through various content such as music, movies, and games, the destinations visited by tourists are becoming more diverse.
In particular, locations famous as filming sites for K-pop artists, such as Yongmaland, the BTS bus stop near Jumunjin Beach, and Awon Gotaek in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, known as a BTS photo shoot location, are not easily accessible by public transportation, highlighting the increasing importance of the convenience of taxi use for foreigners.
In line with these trends, Kakao Mobility has recently supported foreign tourists to conveniently use taxis during domestic travel by linking overseas apps and introducing overseas payment methods.
Kakao Mobility also introduced overseas travel trends through analysis of Kakao T airline ticket sales data. Analysis of airline ticket sales data on Kakao T from January to September this year showed that the most popular overseas travel destinations were Osaka, Tokyo, and Fukuoka, reflecting the increased demand for travel to Japan.
