Gokseong Ttukbang Market Local Branding Project Receives Minister of the Interior and Safety Award
Special Local Tax Investment of 1.3 Billion Won Recognized for Excellence
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 26th that it received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award by attending the performance sharing meeting of the ‘Local Branding Activation Support Project by Living Area Unit (Local Branding Project)’ on the 21st.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Local Branding Project’ is a project that enhances the competitiveness of living areas by utilizing unique local resources and characteristics to create a region where “local residents find it worth living and tourists find it worth visiting,” preserving the region’s uniqueness.
Gokseong-gun’s local branding project, ‘Giving Wings to Ttukbang Market,’ has been recognized externally for its excellence. The project received a special grant of 300 million KRW in its first year, 2023, and a budget of 1 billion KRW in 2024.
The Ttukbang Market will undergo changes by establishing a long-term master plan, creating rest areas that highlight the beautiful natural scenery of Gokseong Ttukbang, installing a promotion center, and developing nighttime scenery, transforming it into a space that converges with local creators.
Through the local branding project, Gokseong-gun plans to revitalize the local economy by linking the alley commercial district (Romantic Workshop Street) and traditional markets centered around Ttukbang Market, and to utilize the space as a cultural enjoyment area for artists and residents as well as a startup incubator, making Gokseong a place everyone wants to visit.
An official from the county stated, “While preparing for this project, we held continuous communication and idea meetings with the Ttukbang Market Cooperative (representative Im Won-ja), and throughout the project implementation process, we have continuously shared opinions to build a local brand unique to Gokseong.”
‘Ttukbang Market’ began in 2016 by renovating a neglected riverbank near the Seomjingang Train Village into a flea market. It opens every Saturday for a total of about 160 times, with more than 60 seller teams participating from all over the country each time, becoming a space where locals and tourists enjoy culture and arts and emerging as a new tourist destination in Gokseong-gun.
