Bucheon-si Opens Resident Priority Parking Lots Free of Charge from 9 AM to 6 PM
Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that starting next year, 161 resident-priority parking lots (4,829 spaces) will be operated free of charge from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The city decided to implement this measure to increase parking efficiency and improve the parking environment for citizens by utilizing resident-priority parking lots during daytime hours. The free opening hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the parking lots can be used not only by Bucheon residents but also by any visitors within the area.
In particular, with the opening of resident-priority parking lots near traditional markets, it is expected that parking convenience for market visitors will be significantly improved.
The city projected that by operating resident-priority parking lots free of charge during the day, it will secure about 14,000 additional parking spaces (assuming three turnovers per parking space) without additional budget input, and reduce citizens' parking costs by approximately 600 million KRW annually. However, areas such as the Ojeong Industrial Complex, where many daytime workers are present, and smart shared parking zones will be operated flexibly.
A Bucheon city official stated, "Free daytime operation of resident-priority parking lots will serve as a model case to overcome Bucheon's insufficient parking environment and maximize parking efficiency without budget expenditure," adding, "We will continue to strive to improve parking convenience for citizens."
