"Welcoming the Year of Gapjin (甲辰): Wishing for a Valuable Year"... Mapo-gu 2024 Sunrise Event
Mapo-gu to Hold 2024 New Year's Sunrise Event at Sky Park Summit on January 1st at 7 AM... Featuring Taeguk Performance, Daebuk Drumming, and 'Chukha Bak' Opening with Various New Year Wishes
The Year of the Black Rabbit is ending, and the new Year of the Blue Dragon is dawning.
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the ‘2024 Sky Park Sunrise Festival’ at Sky Park, one of Seoul’s famous sunrise spots, to welcome the Year of the Blue Dragon in 2024, the Gapjin year.
Mapo-gu plans to create a meaningful event where residents can watch the first sunrise of the new year together, pledge a hopeful start, and pray for the health and happiness of 370,000 Mapo-gu citizens.
The ‘2024 Sky Park Sunrise Festival’ will kick off energetically at 7 a.m. on January 1 with a large drum performance by the ‘Noldang Gapseo’ performance team.
Along with Mayor Park Gang-su’s first drum beating of the new year, attendees will enjoy the first sunrise filled with the energy of the Blue Dragon, celebrate 2024 with a ‘Celebration Drum’ event, and participate in various activities that add meaning to the new year, such as writing wishes on wish papers and hanging them on the ‘New Year Wish Tree.’
Additionally, there will be a fortune-sharing event ‘Roulette Game,’ a photo zone, and an experience area where citizens can try playing the large drum themselves.
In particular, since this is an early morning event during the winter season with many residents attending, the district plans to prioritize safety above all.
They will prepare resting areas for residents to warm up, heaters, and hot water, and deploy about 160 safety personnel throughout risky areas such as the Sky Stairs and slopes where falls might occur.
Moreover, to prevent traffic congestion on the day of the festival, traffic police and members of the Model Drivers Association will be stationed, and fire trucks and ambulances will be on standby at the festival site to respond to fire and emergency incidents.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We will do our best to ensure that all visitors to the sunrise event can enjoy the new year’s sunrise safely and happily. I hope everyone gains overwhelming emotion and new hope while watching the rising sun at the sunrise festival, and sincerely wish that the Gapjin year will be a truly valuable year for all 370,000 Mapo-gu citizens.”
