Lee Won-wook "Democratic Party, Stop Hypocrisy... If Drunk Driving by a Robber is a Problem, What About Lee Jae-myung?"
The Democratic Party has criticized the past drunk driving record of Kang Do-hyung, the nominee for Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, but voices within the party are also saying this is a case of 'naeronambul' (double standards: "If I do it, it's romance; if others do it, it's adultery").
Lee Won-wook, a non-mainstream reformist member of the Democratic Party, posted on his social media on the 21st, questioning why the resignation of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader who also has a drunk driving record, is not being demanded, saying, "Let's stop the naeronambul (double standards)." He posted a message titled "Drunk driving is drunk driving, whoever does it. Let's stop naeronambul," pointing out, "If nominee Kang is a problem, then leader Lee is also a problem."

View original imageNominee Kang was fined 1.5 million won by the Jeju District Court in 2004 for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), and in 1999, he was fined 300,000 won for violating the Act on Punishment of Violent Acts. The Democratic Party has raised voices demanding his resignation over this. However, since party leader Lee Jae-myung was also fined 1.5 million won in the past for drunk driving, demanding resignation solely based on nominee Kang's drunk driving is considered 'naeronambul' (double standards).
Lee said, "The Democratic Party has never demanded the resignation of a lawmaker or party leader by criticizing leader Lee's drunk driving record. Is drunk driving an absolute disqualification for public office for some, but not for others?" He pointed out, "The public now associates the Democratic Party with naeronambul and does not regard it as a moral party."

He added, "Moreover, wasn't leader Lee the Democratic Party's presidential candidate? If a candidate with a drunk driving history who passed the Democratic Party's general election candidate screening is not a problem, then nominee Kang's drunk driving record from 20 years ago should not be an issue either," adding, "The Democratic Party, with its naeronambul, cannot gain public trust. We must reform the Democratic Party that has abandoned principles and common sense."
