Cho Tae-yong Holds Cyber Situation Assessment Meeting: "Inspection and Preparedness Must Be Strengthened"
Following Up on National Computer Network Failure and Strengthening Cyber Threat Preparedness
Joint Government Briefing on Administrative Network Incident Scheduled for the 28th of This Month
Cho Tae-yong, Director of the National Security Office, on the 20th, urged the government agencies in charge of the national computer network and cyber security to "thoroughly inspect and strengthen preparedness for crisis situations that can occur at any time."
On the 20th, Cho Tae-yong held a cyber situation inspection meeting at the Yongsan Presidential Office and said, "The government has the responsibility and role to safely manage key services directly related to the lives of the people and national security," according to the Presidential Office.
This meeting focused on reviewing the results of the government joint special inspection conducted to prevent recurrence of similar incidents such as the administrative computer network failure in November, and discussing measures to strengthen cyber vigilance that may loosen during the year-end and New Year period.
Deputy ministers and senior officials from related agencies including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Health and Welfare, National Intelligence Service, Office for Government Policy Coordination, Financial Services Commission, Prosecutor's Office, National Police Agency, and Cyber Operations Command attended.
At the meeting, it was agreed to thoroughly organize the results of the government joint special inspection and hold a joint briefing by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Intelligence Service on the 28th.
Director Cho especially requested, "In case of a failure situation, please operate a system that prioritizes resolving public inconvenience and concerns by providing detailed information to the public about the current situation and response policies."
