Contributing to Optimal Rice Production by Reducing Paddy Cultivation Area, Selected for Numerous Contest Projects
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, received the top award for the third consecutive year in the 2023 Jeollanam-do Food and Horticulture Evaluation.
According to the county on the 20th, the Food and Horticulture Evaluation assesses performance in a total of 14 items across three fields: food policy, horticulture industry, and subtropical agriculture, to enhance the achievements in Jeollanam-do's food and horticulture sectors.
Haenam-gun earned high scores in securing appropriate rice cultivation areas, expanding agricultural policy insurance enrollment, and increasing facility greenhouse areas. It also achieved the highest number of selections in national and provincial government-funded projects in the food and horticulture sectors, including the 2024 Food Crop Joint Management Support Project, Domestic Wheat Production Complex Support, and Powdered Rice Production Complex Development.
In particular, in line with the government's rice supply stabilization policy, Haenam-gun was recognized for significantly contributing to supply stability through appropriate rice production by expanding farmer participation, promoting on-site education for rice-bean intercropping technology, and actively discovering leading management bodies for paddy crop diversification. The county exceeded its rice cultivation area reduction target of 1,034 hectares by reducing 1,954 hectares, achieving 188% of the goal.
As an incentive for promoting rice cultivation area reduction, the county was directly allocated 46,655 bags of public reserve rice by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and received an additional 29,864 bags compared to the previous year.
Haenam-gun, which has the largest farmland area nationwide, has achieved continuous interest and development efforts in agricultural policy, resulting in winning the grand prize in the comprehensive agricultural policy evaluation for two consecutive years, being selected as an excellent city/county in agricultural policy evaluation for two consecutive years, and receiving the top award in the food and horticulture evaluation for three consecutive years.
