Applying Hologram Technology from Sci-Fi Movies to Real-World Administrative Services
Enhancing Information Accessibility for Digitally Vulnerable Groups like Disabled and Children through Smart Showcase Operation
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will install and operate a 'Smart Showcase' within the small and medium-sized enterprise product exhibition hall located on the first floor of the district office.
The Smart Showcase is a showcase that combines ‘contactless spatial touch’ technology with ‘image-forming hologram’ technology. An AI camera installed at the top of the showcase recognizes the 3D coordinates of a person's eyes and fingertips, matching the coordinates and objects in 3D to operate by manipulating the pointed location.
This operation of the Smart Showcase follows its selection in the '2023 New Support Target R&D Project Contest in the Electronic Components Field' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The district expects digital innovation of the SME product exhibition hall through verification of this developed technology.
Currently, the products displayed inside the Smart Showcase include six items such as ▲pet neck protectors and ▲hearing aids. These were prioritized among the total 34 items for products requiring detailed guidance on their functions or features.
When users touch a product displayed in the Smart Showcase with their finger in mid-air, detailed information about the pointed product is displayed on the Smart Showcase DID screen. To enhance the information delivery capability of the Smart Showcase, voice service will also be supported.
The district expects that through the Smart Showcase, users will be able to select desired information from a distance without being restricted by height, greatly improving information accessibility and convenience for digitally vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and children.
Furthermore, based on the results of this pilot operation, the district plans to apply spatial touch functionality to the ‘Smart Information Notice Board’ currently in operation for real-time delivery of district administration and living information.
Meanwhile, the district is actively introducing advanced technologies related to the 4th industrial revolution such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) into administrative services to strengthen the district’s competitiveness and improve residents’ quality of life. In particular, starting next year, it plans to expand the installation of intelligent CCTV using AI and enhance patrols of walking trails using autonomous drones to thoroughly prevent crime.
