Cameron UK Minister: "Putin's Defeat Is Essential... Will Continue Support"
Press Conference After the Meeting of Foreign Ministers Young-pu and Young-jeong
David Cameron, the UK Foreign Secretary, expressed confidence on the 19th (local time) in the defeat of Russian President Vladimir Putin and reiterated his intention to support Ukraine.
According to AFP, after holding talks with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in Paris on the same day, Cameron held a joint press conference, stating, "There is no doubt about the certainty of Putin's defeat, and his defeat is essential," adding, "The UK and France will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary."
Cameron returned to politics last month as Foreign Secretary, seven years after resigning as Prime Minister in 2016, and visited Ukraine as his first overseas trip to promise British support.
This statement is interpreted as a concern over some countries showing skeptical responses to supporting Ukraine amid the prolonged Ukraine war.
Minister Colonna also said, "The UK and France have stood shoulder to shoulder from the beginning, working together to help Ukraine restore its freedom, sovereignty, and territory," adding, "We hope this cooperation will be further strengthened."
The two ministers also agreed to cooperate regarding the Houthi rebels' attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
Minister Colonna stated, "We know that the Houthi rebels often receive support from Iran," and urged, "We must strengthen our operational capabilities in the region to end the Houthi attacks."
Minister Colonna also condemned attacks by Israeli extremist settlers on Palestinian residents in the West Bank, saying, "This is unacceptable," and added, "France will take measures against these extremist settlers."
