"I Never Received Money"... Prosecutor Investigating 'Incident Broker' Denies Charges
Mokpo Branch Investigator Accused of Accepting Bribes to Suppress Investigation
Six Key Case Figures Summoned as Witnesses for Evidence Examination
A prosecution investigator accused of receiving money from an incident broker and providing investigation information or covering up investigations denied the charges in court.
On the 19th, Judge Kim Ji-yeon of the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 6 held the second trial for prosecutor investigator A, affiliated with the Mokpo branch of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, who was indicted on charges including violation of the Attorney-at-Law Act and bribery.
A was accused of informing Seong (61), a broker, in advance about the issuance of a search warrant for the mobile phone of Tak (44), a virtual asset investment fraudster who acted as a lobby fund channel for Seong, and then covering up or downplaying the related investigation, subsequently receiving approximately 13 million KRW worth of money and valuables.
On this day, A’s lawyer denied all charges, stating, "The defendant never received any requests from Seong to provide legal advice or prepare statements, nor did he receive any money or valuables."
The presiding judge accepted the prosecution’s request to summon six witnesses, including Tak’s brothers who reported on A, and Seong, for additional questioning.
Tak was indicted on charges of conducting a large-scale investment fraud against numerous investors nationwide by promising to guarantee the principal and profits if they invested in coins.
Additionally, three others, including Seong who acted as a broker receiving money from Tak, and investigation agency personnel who were entertained by Seong, are also scheduled to be summoned as witnesses.
