Maeil Dairies, Preventing Solitary Deaths with 'Wuyu Anbu'
Milk Delivery to 4,124 Low-Income Elderly Living Alone Nationwide
Contact Authorities if More Than Two Milk Containers Accumulate to Check on Seniors' Well-being
Maeil Dairies continues its "Milk Check-in" activity, delivering milk daily to check on the health and prevent solitary deaths of elderly people living alone.
The Milk Check-in activity is a shortened term for "milk delivery that checks on the elderly." It began in 2003 when Oksu Central Church started delivering milk to 100 low-income elderly households living alone. In 2015, Pastor Hoyong Han took the lead to establish a corporation and expanded the initiative into a public interest project through corporate and individual sponsorships.
Since 2016, Maeil Dairies has participated as a sponsor, donating 1% of the sales of its "easily digestible milk" product every year. Anyone who purchases the easily digestible milk product participates in the donation.

As of last month, 4,124 households nationwide are receiving Milk Check-in support. If two or more milk cartons accumulate in front of a house, the delivery person contacts the nearby public office to request a welfare check on the elderly resident, thereby preventing solitary deaths.

A Maeil Dairies representative said, "During the year-end season, when gatherings and events are frequent, many elderly people feel lonely. Although it is a small gesture, we hope that a single carton of milk delivered daily conveys warm feelings to the elderly." They added, "We plan to continue the Milk Check-in campaign to ensure that elderly people living alone in our society are not neglected."
