Firefly Habitat Restored at Icheon Seolbong Park
Selected for Ministry of Environment Project... Secured 430 Million KRW in National Funding
The firefly habitat within Seolbong Park in the Gwango-dong area of Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be restored.
On the 19th, Icheon City announced that the firefly habitat restoration project in Seolbong Park, located at San 64-8, Gwango-dong, was recently selected for the '2024 Ecosystem Conservation Charge Refund Project' led by the Ministry of Environment, securing 430 million KRW in national funding.

With the secured project budget, the city plans to create a multilayered forest belt connecting forest and aquatic ecosystems, biological wetlands, and grasslands next year as part of the 'Seolbong Mountain Firefly Habitat Restoration and Ecological Education Space Creation Project' within Seolbong Park.

Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon City, stated, "Seolbong Mountain is a treasure trove of ecology where rare flora and fauna such as fireflies, white azaleas, and crayfish inhabit," adding, "This project will be an opportunity to preserve Seolbong Mountain and Seolbong Park as healthy spaces where nature and people coexist."
