Korando Electric Vehicle to Be Released as a Taxi
KG Mobility announced on the 19th that it has renamed its compact electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) Korando e-Motion to Korando EV. The company plans to release an updated version in June, including a taxi model. Pre-orders will be accepted from today until May next year.
The Korando EV was initially launched in February last year. Sales were halted due to battery supply difficulties, but with new battery, motor, and key specifications, the vehicle is being reintroduced this time. The company emphasized its cost-effectiveness (performance relative to price) as a strong point. Considering the long driving range, the warranty period is extended to 10 years or 300,000 km, surpassing competitors' 10 years or 160,000 km. The battery warranty is also 10 years or 1,000,000 km.
To promote pre-orders, customers who purchase with a lump sum payment can exchange the 18-inch exclusive tires once free of charge within the warranty period. For installment purchases, there is a 60-month interest-free plan (with a 50% down payment), making the daily cost about 8,000 KRW, which is affordable. The vehicle uses a 73.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the same as in the Torres electric car, allowing a driving range of 403 km on a single charge. The company explained that this is sufficient for a taxi's daily operating distance. The maximum output is 207 horsepower, with a torque of 34.6 kg·m.
Considering long hours of driving, the seat specifications have been upgraded, and features such as LED headlamps and a 9-inch Infocon navigation package are included as standard. There is also a PVC floor mat designed for easy installation of a meter. Prices will be determined at the time of release. For taxis accepting pre-orders, prices start from 39.3 million KRW to 39.8 million KRW for individual taxi drivers under simplified taxation, and from 43.23 million KRW to 43.78 million KRW for corporate and individual taxi drivers under general taxation. Depending on regional electric vehicle subsidies, the price can be as low as the 20 million KRW range.
