The population of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, which has remained in the 1.09 million range for four years, is drawing attention as to whether it will surpass 1.1 million next year due to the effect of large-scale apartment move-ins.
According to Yongin City on the 19th, a total of 12 apartment complexes with 11,487 households are scheduled to move in throughout the Yongin area next year.

By district, there are 9 complexes with 9,964 households in Cheoin-gu, 1 complex with 999 households in Giheung-gu, and 2 complexes with 524 households in Suji-gu. The move-in volume is concentrated in Cheoin-gu, where SK Hynix’s Wonsam 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster' and Samsung Electronics’ Icheon and Namsa 'System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' will be established.
The city expects that the population, which has stagnated at around 1.09 million for four years since entering the 1.09 million range in 2020 due to the effect of large-scale apartment move-ins, will exceed 1.1 million next year. The population of Yongin City entered the 1.09 million range in 2020 with 1,090,907 people, and as of the end of November, the population was 1,094,549. A Yongin City official said, "In the past, the population increase in Yongin City was linked to large-scale apartment move-ins," adding, "Considering the move-in volume, it is expected to comfortably settle at 1.1 million next year."
The first apartment move-in in the Yongin area next year will be 1,721 households in Bopyeong 2 District, Gorim-dong, Cheoin-gu. Move-ins will begin in January. Then in April, apartments will be completed consecutively in ▲Mabuk-dong, Giheung-gu (999 households), ▲Yurim-dong, Cheoin-gu (1,963 households), and ▲Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu (94 households).
In August, large complexes of 1,345 households and 1,358 households will move in near Gojin Station of the Yongin Light Rail in Gorim District, Cheoin-gu. Additionally, in December, apartments will move in at ▲Wangsan District, Mohyeon-eup, Cheoin-gu (2,413 households), ▲Namgok 2 District, Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu (776 households), and ▲Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu (430 households).
The city explained that based on the average household size of 2.52 persons per household in Yongin City, a simple calculation indicates an influx of 28,947 people.

Due to the creation of a large-scale semiconductor belt in the Cheoin-gu area, there is also a possibility that population inflow will accelerate in the mid to long term. This is because, amid a rapid decline in birth rates, jobs are the most decisive factor influencing population inflow.
