LG Electronics Establishes Consortium to Develop Next-Generation Heat Pump Technology
Customized Talent Development through Industry-Academia Collaboration
Goal to Establish a Global Heat Pump Cluster
LG Electronics announced on the 19th that it has formed a consortium with leading domestic universities to develop core technologies for next-generation heat pumps, which are gaining attention as low-carbon heating solutions.
LG Electronics signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Establishment of the LG Next-Generation Heat Pump Consortium' at the New Engineering Building of Korea University in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by consortium members including Kang Yong-tae, professor at Korea University and consortium chairman, Kim Min-soo, professor at Seoul National University, Jang Young-soo, professor at Kookmin University, as well as Lee Jae-sung, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Air Solution Business Division.

The 'LG Next-Generation Heat Pump Consortium' is expected to play a leading role in securing fundamental heat pump technologies necessary to lead the global electrification efforts underway to replace fossil fuels. It will also nurture customized talent through industry-academia cooperation. By establishing a virtuous cycle structure between academia and industry, the consortium aims to contribute to changes in the global heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) market.
LG Electronics plans to continuously expand the universities and experts participating in the consortium. The company’s strategy includes launching additional consortia in North America, Europe, and Asia to build a global heat pump cluster. Last month, LG Electronics launched a consortium for heat pump technology development in Alaska, USA, and established the 'LG Alaska Heat Pump Research Institute' as part of this strategy.
