Pyeongtaek City Decides to Rename Pyeonghwa Arts Center as 'Pyeongtaek Art Center'
Complex Performance and Exhibition Space... Opening in 2025
On the 18th, Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced that the name of the Peace Arts Center (tentative name), currently under construction with a planned opening in 2025, has been decided as 'Pyeongtaek Art Center.'
The city explained that this naming decision was made based on the results of a naming contest held for three weeks starting in October.

View original image'Pyeongtaek Art Center' is a complex cultural and artistic space being built within the central park of the Godeok International District. It is under construction on a 20,000㎡ site with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, totaling a gross floor area of 25,000㎡. The building will include a large performance hall with 1,315 seats, a small performance hall with 323 seats, exhibition facilities, and convenience facilities.
The city received a total of 460 name submissions through the contest and selected the winning entry after first and second rounds of evaluation based on criteria such as symbolism, creativity, clarity, and international appeal.
The city will award 500,000 KRW in Pyeongtaek Love Gift Certificates for the grand prize, 200,000 KRW for the excellence award, and 100,000 KRW for the encouragement award. The grand prize winner’s entry will also be used to develop various brand logos.
Meanwhile, the city added that due to multiple duplicate name submissions in this contest, only the first applicant for each duplicate name was considered for evaluation.

A city official stated, "We will do our best to ensure that Pyeongtaek Art Center becomes a landmark of Pyeongtaek and a representative performance venue in the southern metropolitan area."
