"Looking for a Husband to Have Children and Manage Household" Banner in Front of Girls' High School: Man in His 50s Receives Suspended Sentence Again in Second Trial
Court: "Cannot judge the original sentence as too light"
A man in his 50s, who was indicted for hanging a banner in front of a girls' middle and high school stating "Looking for a girl to bear a child for a man in his 60s," received a suspended sentence again in the appellate court. Previously, the man's photo had spread on online communities, sparking controversy.
On the 15th, the 2-2 Criminal Appeals Division of Daegu District Court (Presiding Judge Son Dae-sik) dismissed the prosecution's appeal and upheld the original sentence of 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspension for Mr. A (59), who was tried on charges including violation of the Child Welfare Act and Outdoor Advertising Act.
The court explained the sentencing by stating, "Considering Mr. A's poor health condition, the original sentence is not deemed too lenient."
Mr. A is accused of hanging a banner on his cargo truck near a girls' high school and girls' middle school in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, in March last year, which read, "Looking for a woman aged 13 to 20 to bear a child and manage the household for a rough man in his 60s who lives alone."
The banner also included phrases such as "Students who find studying unbearable because their views differ from the world, come to this truck," along with a phone number presumed to be Mr. A's contact information.
In the first trial, the court sentenced Mr. A to 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspension, stating that his actions caused sexual humiliation to the students.
