Hong Ik-pyo "The Time for Democratic Party Innovation Is Not Yet... After Mid-January"
Democratic Party Floor Leader, SBS Radio Interview
On Lee Jae-myung's Resignation Demand: "Beyond My Authority"
Hong Ik-pyo, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, predicted on the 15th that "the time for innovation has not yet come for the Democratic Party," regarding the voices demanding innovation such as the liquidation of the 586 generation (people in their 50s, who entered university in the 1980s, born in the 1960s) erupting within the party. He said, "If anything, mid-January to early February will be a very important time for innovation for the Democratic Party."
In an interview with SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' on the same day, Floor Leader Hong said, "Political parties undergo forced changes when they suffer a major defeat in elections or face a crisis," adding, "Another case is that inevitable changes follow public sentiment ahead of important elections."

That is one task for the leadership and another concern for responsible lawmakers of our party."

Regarding the demand from the party's reform faction 'Principles and Common Sense' the previous day for Representative Lee Jae-myung's resignation and the transition to a unified emergency committee system, he said, "I cannot promise demands such as forcing Representative Lee Jae-myung to step down as it is beyond my authority," and added, "If I were to propose something within the scope of my role as floor leader, I will thoroughly review it and try to accept it if it is a good direction for the party."
