"This is the first time we are showcasing the result of combining LG Electronics' automotive electronics business competitiveness with the expertise in automotive security of our subsidiary, Cybellum." - Eun Seok-hyun, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics VS (Vehicle Components) Business Division
On the 14th, LG Electronics announced that it will unveil its vehicle cybersecurity solution for OEM customers for the first time at CES 2024, the world's largest consumer electronics and information technology (IT) exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA, from January 9 to 12 next year (local time).
As safety issues become increasingly important in future mobility industries such as autonomous and electric vehicles, and as regulations related to vehicle cybersecurity are strengthened, LG Electronics stated that it has strived to develop a security management solution that satisfies OEM customers.

The 'Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) Cockpit Platform' that LG Electronics will showcase at CES is also a product developed together with its subsidiary Cybellum. It integrates LG Electronics' cybersecurity capabilities with Cybellum's cloud-based cybersecurity solution technology.
This platform acts as a cybersecurity "control tower" for software and hardware attached to vehicles throughout the entire lifecycle, spanning about 20 years from vehicle development to mass production and beyond. It evaluates the cybersecurity status of products attached to vehicles, identifies issues, and resolves them. It proposes countermeasures to prevent potential security threats from materializing and monitors the status of actions taken to enhance security reliability. All security activities and action histories conducted during the product lifecycle are managed in a database. By collecting big data, it enhances security-related technology and business competitiveness.
An LG Electronics official explained, "OEMs can use this platform to protect vehicle systems from cybersecurity threats and ensure the safety of vehicles and passengers," adding, "Through this, they can secure a competitive edge in the automotive market where connectivity is becoming an essential attribute."
The mobility industry is evolving into Software Defined Vehicles (SDV). Various data are generated inside vehicles, making security increasingly important. To secure the necessary capabilities and competitiveness in the security field, LG Electronics acquired management rights of Cybellum, an Israeli automotive cybersecurity company, in 2021.
The vehicle cybersecurity regulation 'UNECE R-155' announced by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) stipulates that from July next year, all vehicles launched in UNECE contracting countries must obtain certification for cybersecurity management systems. UNECE includes over 50 countries from Asia, including Korea and Japan, as well as the European Union (EU), Oceania, and Africa.
Slava Bronfman, CEO of Cybellum, said, "The CSMS Cockpit Platform will be an innovative solution that helps OEM customers solve complex cybersecurity management."
