Won-Buddhism Elder, Beopsan Lee Baek-cheol Wonjeongsa Passes Away
Won Buddhism senior monk Beopsan (法山) Lee Baek-cheol, Wonjeongsa (圓正師), passed away at 4 a.m. on the 13th at a hospital in Iksan, Jeonbuk. He was 96 years old. He had practiced for 82 years.
Born in 1927 in Muju, Jeonbuk, the late monk devoted himself to Won Buddhism at the age of 13. Having received teachings from So Taesan Park Jung-bin, the founder of Won Buddhism, since childhood, he graduated from the predecessor of Wonkwang University, Yuil Hakrim, in 1953 and served as a monk at Yongshin Church in Gimje, Jeonbuk, and Unbong Church in Namwon.
He later held positions such as Deputy Director of the Finance Department at the Won Buddhism Central Headquarters, President of Wongwangsa Temple, Vice President of Seoul Bohwadang, General Manager of Seoul Sutowon, and served as the head of the Mission Department, Martyrdom Office, Yeongmo Cemetery, Sugye Farm, and Central Training Center at the Won Buddhism Central Headquarters. In 2000, he was promoted to Wonjeongsa, the second highest of the six stages of practice, as an ordained monk.
The funeral hall was set up at Hyangjeokdang of the Won Buddhism Central Headquarters in Iksan, Jeonbuk. The funeral will be held as a Won Buddhism church funeral.

The funeral procession will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the 15th at the Banbaeknyeon Memorial Hall of the Won Buddhism Central Headquarters. The burial site is Yeongmo Cemetery in Iksan, Jeonbuk.
