Prosecutors Appeal 2-Year Prison Sentence in First Trial of 50s Man for Subway Line 2 Stabbing Rampage
"Sentenced Punishment Judged to Be Too Light"
The prosecution appealed the first trial result of a man in his 50s who injured citizens by wielding a weapon on Seoul Subway Line 2.
On the 13th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced that Hong Mo (51), who was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, appealed after being sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial.
The prosecution stated the reason for the appeal, saying, "Considering that the crime was committed on public transportation used by many citizens, that Hong's crime increased social anxiety, and that the victims have not been compensated, we requested a five-year prison sentence, but the two-year sentence given was deemed too light."
