Branding Goheung as an Aerospace Hub City

Collaboration with Children's Science Dong-A for Nurturing Young Talent in the Space Era

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 11th that it has signed a business agreement with Donga Science Co., Ltd. (CEO Jang Kyung-ae), the only science-specialized media company in Korea, to strengthen the brand competitiveness of "Gohung, the Aerospace Hub City."

At the signing ceremony, Governor Gong Young-min of Gohung-gun, CEO Jang Kyung-ae, and other related executives attended and pledged mutual cooperation to nurture young talents in the space era and to promote the spread of the "Gohung, the Aerospace Hub City" brand and joint marketing.

Donga Science Co., Ltd. is a company that has provided various scientific content and science culture activities centered on Korea's only science magazine with a 37-year history, "Science Donga," the "Children's Science Donga," which won the AAAS Science Journalism Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Korea's first mathematics culture magazine "Math Donga."

Governor Gong Young-min emphasized the significance of the business agreement between the two organizations, saying, "We plan various projects related to the field, such as promoting the 2024 Aerospace Press Corps and Children's Astronaut Selection Project in collaboration with 'Children's Science Donga,' which has over 70,000 child members."

He continued, "Gohung-gun is Korea's only gateway to space, where the Korean launch vehicles (Naroho, Nuriho) launch site is located," adding, "National-level investments are underway in the space industry sector, such as the designation of the space launch vehicle industry cluster specialized zone last December and the designation of the space launch vehicle national industrial complex this March, and related companies are expected to settle in."

CEO Jang Kyung-ae of Donga Science Co., Ltd. said, "We will do our best to brand Gohung by utilizing our genuine scientific content capabilities to promote the value of Gohung as a space city and add value to Gohung as a future city," and added, "We look forward to providing children with opportunities to dream of space and challenge space in the future space era."

Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to mutually cooperate to strengthen the Gohung-gun brand and revitalize space and science culture by linking Gohung-gun's infrastructure in the fields of space, drones, and UAM with Donga Science Co., Ltd.'s personnel pool in various fields and diverse promotional channels.

Meanwhile, Gohung-gun is growing as the center of Korea's future space industry by promoting future strategic industries such as the creation of a space launch vehicle national industrial complex, establishment of core infrastructure including private launch sites, construction of a space launch vehicle technology commercialization center, and building of a space launch vehicle science complex through the space launch vehicle cluster project by 2031.
