Hyundai Motor Group's 6 Companies Receive 'Top Grade' in Global Sustainability Management Evaluation
Six companies within Hyundai Motor Group were included in the highest tier, the 'DJSI World Index,' in the 2023 Dow Jones Sustainability Index evaluation. Major affiliates such as Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Steel, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Hyundai Glovis were recognized for their world-class ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) is a global sustainability management evaluation index published annually by S&P Dow Jones Indices, the world's largest financial information provider, and S&P Global Switzerland SA, a global sustainability assessment organization, which evaluates corporate ESG performance.
The 'DJSI World' acquired this time corresponds to the highest grade, including companies ranked in the top 10% among 2,500 global companies by market capitalization. Notably, all six companies were recognized for their sustainability management competitiveness at the top 1% level within their respective industries compared to the previous year.
A Hyundai Motor Group official explained that this is the result of efforts made by each affiliate to precisely analyze global sustainability management standards and undergo a separate internalization process. In this year's evaluation, the six companies showed significant improvements in areas aligned with global ESG trends, including ▲double materiality assessment ▲biodiversity protection ▲climate change response ▲safety and health management ▲employee human rights.
By affiliate, Hyundai Motor was highly rated for increased sales of low-carbon vehicles in Europe and strengthened open innovation. Kia was recognized for disclosing integrated ESG policies and improving environmental performance at business sites. Hyundai Mobis expanded greenhouse gas Scope 3 management and strengthened ESG risk management at business sites. Hyundai Steel improved ESG policies and enhanced information security processes. Hyundai Engineering & Construction received approval for its carbon neutrality strategy from the Science-based Target Initiative (SBTi) and disclosed sustainable revenue based on the EU Taxonomy. Hyundai Glovis strengthened climate change risk analysis and expanded human rights impact assessments at business sites. These were acknowledged as improvements compared to the previous year.

As a result, Hyundai Engineering & Construction was included in the DJSI World for the 14th consecutive year, Hyundai Steel for the 6th consecutive year, Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Mobis, and Hyundai Glovis for the 3rd consecutive year, and Kia for the 2nd consecutive year following last year. By sector, Hyundai Motor was ranked first globally in the automobile industry, Hyundai Engineering & Construction in the construction industry, and Hyundai Steel in the steel industry.
