The Democratic Party Announces 5 New Candidates for the General Election: Ha Jung-hoon, Park Chung-kwon, Yoon Do-hyun, Koo Ja-ryong, and Lee Soo-jung
"Youth and Socially Vulnerable Representation... Experts from Various Fields"
On the 8th, the People Power Party announced the recruitment of five talents, including pediatrician Ha Jeong-hoon and Professor Lee Soo-jeong of the Department of Criminal Psychology at Kyonggi University, who will play active roles in next year's general election.
Lee Cheol-gyu, head of the People Power Party's Talent Recruitment Committee, announced at a briefing at the party headquarters that they had recruited Director Ha Jeong-hoon, known as the author of "Bbi-bbo Bbi-bbo 119 Pediatrics," Park Chung-kwon, a defector graduate of the Pyongyang Defense University and senior researcher at Hyundai Steel's R&D headquarters, Yoon Do-hyun, CEO of SOL (Support for Independent Youth) and a mentor for youth preparing for independence, lawyer Koo Ja-ryong of Hanbyeol, and Professor Lee Soo-jeong.
Lee said, "The five people we have invited this time represent socially vulnerable groups such as youth, women, children, and defectors, and have actively contributed greatly to society as experts in various fields including public safety and childcare."
Lee added, "Director Ha has been active as a mentor for novice parents in childcare settings based on numerous clinical results. He is expected to play a significant role in presenting solutions to overcome the ultra-low birthrate crisis and in establishing a proper childcare culture."
Researcher Park represents defectors and engineering youth. After graduating from the Pyongyang Defense University, which focuses on training personnel for nuclear missile development such as ICBMs, he defected to South Korea in 2009 and settled there. Lee said, "We expect him to play a major role as a new role model for North Korean defectors settled in South Korea, contributing greatly to the improvement of North Korean human rights and the development of South Korean engineering."
CEO Yoon lived in an orphanage for 18 years before becoming independent and now runs a related organization. Lee expressed hope, saying, "She will play a significant role in guiding marginalized youth to become substantial members of South Korean society."
Regarding lawyer Koo and Professor Lee Soo-jeong, who have been consistently mentioned as recruitment talents, Lee said, "We expect lawyer Koo to serve as a bridge connecting education reform and the legal field," and "Professor Lee is expected to play a major role in improving victims' human rights and proposing alternatives."
Some of the talents announced this time are expected to run as local constituency candidates. Lee said, "In particular, Professor Lee Soo-jeong has expressed her intention to run in Suwon, leveraging her experience conducting research based on the region to contribute to local development. Additionally, there are others who have said they will compete even in difficult regions to demonstrate a spirit of challenge to youth and spread positive influence in our society through that process." Professor Lee had previously indicated her intention to run in Kyonggi Suwon-jeong in media interviews.
The Talent Recruitment Committee plans to announce new recruits weekly starting from this day. Lee explained, "Those recruited in the future will not necessarily run for parliamentary elections and become lawmakers. Some will develop policies through the platform of the political party and participate in other fields."
