Prosecutors Search Current Police Commissioner Suspected of Involvement in 'Case Broker' Scandal
The prosecution conducted a search and seizure targeting a current police superintendent in connection with the broker Seongssi case.
According to the legal community on the 6th, the Anti-Corruption and Violent Crime Investigation Division (Chief Kim Jin-ho) of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office executed search warrants at the Central Police Academy in Chungju, Chungbuk, and the Gwangju Police Agency that morning.
The subject of the search and seizure is Superintendent A, who is reportedly suspected of being involved in personnel solicitation corruption during his tenure as the head of the Gwangju Police Agency.
Investigators also sent personnel to the office of the Gwangju Police Agency Chief, Superintendent A's former workplace, to conduct a search and seizure.
This forced investigation appears to be aimed at determining whether the money delivered by Inspector B of the Gwangju Police Agency to the broker Seongssi was passed on to Superintendent A.
Inspector B has been suspended from duty after being booked on charges of bribery involving a third party (personnel solicitation).
The prosecution arrested and indicted Seongssi on charges of receiving over 1.8 billion won from a virtual asset fraudster along with accomplices and soliciting case favors, and is conducting follow-up investigations into personnel solicitation corruption and local government public construction contract corruption.
