Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that it recently held an interim report meeting for the 'Urban History and Culture Archive Survey Project' aimed at preserving the city's history.
This survey project is part of an initiative to preserve the rapidly changing and developing history of Pyeongtaek City. Over five years, distinctive areas of Pyeongtaek will be selected for research and investigation. This year, Sinjang-dong, where the Pyeongtaek Osan Air Base (K-55) is located, was chosen for the study.

At the report meeting held under the theme "The Past and Present of Sinjang-dong," discussions focused on the commercial districts and urban changes from the most prosperous period of Sinjang-dong in the 1960s to 1980s up to the present. In particular, the commercial district analysis revealed that in the 1960s and 1970s, most stores were dry cleaners and tailor shops, with many catering to U.S. military personnel.
A city official stated, "We will intensify efforts to collect materials and artifacts related to urban history and culture, which will be used as basic data for an exhibition of donated artifacts scheduled for the first half of next year."
