Gwangju Buk-gu Focuses Efforts on Stabilizing Residents' Lives During Winter Season
Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is focusing all available resources to strengthen winter safety management and stabilize residents' lives as the winter season begins in earnest.
According to Buk-gu on the 3rd, the 'Comprehensive Winter Resident Life Stabilization Plan in Buk-gu' will be implemented for three months from this month until February next year.
Buk-gu's comprehensive plan for stabilizing residents' lives is prepared with 17 tasks in three major areas: ▲protection of vulnerable groups ▲prevention of infectious diseases ▲preparation for disasters and accidents, to ensure that vulnerable groups feel the warmth of the local community during winter and to protect residents from various accidents.
First, Buk-gu has established a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and started continuous situation management work to block the local spread of respiratory diseases that tend to be prevalent in winter, such as COVID-19 and influenza, supporting residents' healthy lives.
In addition, safety inspections of welfare facilities for ▲the elderly ▲the disabled ▲children ▲youth ▲the homeless are being conducted simultaneously, while providing lunch boxes to elderly people with mobility difficulties and children at risk of food insecurity, and strengthening detailed protection for welfare recipients by improving harmful environments for youth.
In particular, Buk-gu is promoting a 'Kimjang Kimchi Sharing Event' with about 30,000 heads of kimchi to deliver the community's love to neighbors in need, while actively identifying neighbors requiring care to prevent the occurrence of socially isolated vulnerable groups, aiming for housing stability through boiler inspections and heating cost support.
Furthermore, to prevent inconvenience to residents during heavy snow and cold waves, sufficient snow removal materials and equipment such as 544 tons of salt and 140 tons of eco-friendly deicing agents have been secured to prevent traffic and pedestrian accidents. In addition, a step-by-step emergency system will be established according to weather alerts to actively respond to winter disasters and accidents.
