Busan City Posts 2023 Busan Culture Billboard Winter Edition
From the 2nd to February next year, Creative Work by Yoon Jeong-sik Displayed on Busan City Hall Exterior Wall
Message: "Winter Endured by Delicate Branches, Now It's Your Turn to Bloom"
Busan City has selected the text for the 2023 Busan Culture Billboard Winter Edition and will display it on the exterior wall of the Busan City Hall from the 2nd until February next year, for about three months.
The selected winter edition text is an original creation by Yoon Jeong-sik: "A winter endured by slender branches, now it's your turn to bloom."
Out of a total of 642 submissions received during the one-month call for entries in October, Yoon Jeong-sik's original work was ultimately chosen after a fair evaluation by the Busan Writers' Association.
Lee Seok-rae, the head judge (Busan Writers' Association), stated that after the first and second preliminary rounds, 21 works advanced to the final judging. The selection criteria focused on choosing comfortable and warm phrases that directly resonate with citizens rather than metaphorical poetic structures, unique poetic words, or texts.
Among the original works, some included song lyrics, well-known phrases from existing poets, or expressions similar to those on culture billboards from other regions, but many submissions showed traces of deep contemplation.
Kim Bong-cheol, Director of the Architecture and Housing Bureau, said, "I hope this message encourages Busan citizens not to give up or despair in any difficult situation, and that soon it will become an opportunity for hope and overcoming challenges."
The call for entries for the 2024 Busan Culture Billboard Spring Edition is scheduled to be held in January. The text should be a short phrase within 25 characters that allows citizens to feel love, hope, and warm affection. Both original creations and excerpts from literary works are acceptable.
