Hong Ik-pyo: "After Impeachment of Lee Dong-gwan, Will Also Hold Responsible for 'Legislation and Judiciary Committee Disruption'"
Democrats Hold Party Meeting Before Plenary Session... Confirm Impeachment Will
Hong Ik-pyo "Yidong-gwan Abuses Judiciary Committee to Block Impeachment"
The Democratic Party of Korea held a party caucus just before the plenary session scheduled for the 30th and reaffirmed its determination to push forward with the impeachment. In particular, Floor Leader Hong Ik-pyo recalled that the ruling party disrupted the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee to block the plenary session, stating, "After handling the impeachment bill, we will definitely hold (Chairman Lee Dong-gwan) accountable."
At the party caucus held at the National Assembly in the afternoon, Floor Leader Hong emphasized, "The plenary session is scheduled to be held as planned over the next two days starting today," and added, "The claim by the People Power Party that the plenary session will not be held if the budget bill is not agreed upon is completely untrue." He continued, "It seems they are planning various actions to obstruct the plenary session schedule, which is conducted through legal procedures, and I hope they will abide by the National Assembly's Advancement Act."

Referring to the ruling party's responsibility for disrupting the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 22nd, a day before the previous plenary session, he said, "I have never seen a case where the committee was abused to avoid discussing an agenda by not convening the committee and causing disruption," and pointed out, "It is clearly a case where the committee or its chairman excessively exercised their authority, leading the entire National Assembly into disruption, which is a very wrong precedent."
He also raised the ruling party's responsibility regarding the 'budget bill review.' He pointed out, "While there are disagreements between the two parties causing delays in the Budget and Accounts Committee and making it difficult to meet the review schedule, the People Power Party bears significant responsibility for delaying the agreement on the budget bill itself to block the impeachment of Broadcasting and Communications Commission Chairman Lee Dong-gwan."
