Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Selected as 'Car of the Year' by UK Top Gear
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 30th that it won awards in two categories at the Car of the Year judging hosted by the UK's leading automotive media outlet, Top Gear. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was selected as Car of the Year, and the Kia EV9 was chosen as Family Car of the Year.
The Ioniq 5 N, named Car of the Year at the 2023 Top Gear Awards, is Hyundai's first high-performance electric vehicle under the N brand, combining advanced electrification technology to push driving performance to the extreme.
Hyundai poured all the technology and experience accumulated from participating in motorsports into the Ioniq 5 N. The Ioniq 5 N was created with the goal of providing driving pleasure and driving sensitivity even in the electrification era, pioneering a new realm of high-performance electric vehicles.
Paul Horrell, a judge for Top Gear's Car of the Year, praised, "It is impressive that Hyundai tried to convey the driving sensitivity of internal combustion engine vehicles through the Ioniq 5 N," adding, "The Ioniq 5 N, which offers outstanding driving performance and a different level of driving enjoyment, is a model that will pioneer a new area in the electric vehicle era."
Selected as Family Car of the Year, the EV9 is Kia's second dedicated electric vehicle model based on Hyundai Motor Group's exclusive electric vehicle platform, 'E-GMP.' It is a flagship electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) that plays a key role in Kia's leap as a global electrification-leading brand.
Ollie Q, Deputy Editor of Top Gear, said, "The EV9 received high marks as a family car due to its long driving range, various storage spaces, and comfortable seats," adding, "Eco-friendly materials were also applied in a luxurious way unique to the EV9's style."
Kia plans to strengthen its position as an electrification brand by selling the EV9 in the European market starting November this year, following the EV6.
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "It is an honor to win awards in two categories from a globally renowned automotive media outlet," adding, "This is a meaningful achievement recognizing the technological prowess of Hyundai and Kia's electrification models in the fiercely competitive global electric vehicle market."
