Commemoration Event for the Week to Eliminate Violence Against Women Held
Jeonnam Province raised social awareness about violence against women under the theme of "Creating a Safe Daily Life Without Violence Against Women Together" and emphasized the importance of a safe daily life created together by the residents.
To mark the four-week Women Violence Eradication Week, which runs until December 1, the province announced that a commemorative event was held on the 29th at the Jeonnam Women and Family Foundation Performance Hall.
The event was attended by about 150 people, including Choi Seon-guk, Chair of the Health, Welfare and Environment Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, committee member Kim Mi-kyung, and workers from facilities preventing violence against women. It featured a pre-event performance by the Freebird Band, a commemorative ceremony, and a special lecture.
At the ceremony, commendations from the Governor of Jeonnam were presented to nurse Choi Bong-seon of the Jeonnam Sunflower Center, counselor Song Suk-hyun, and team leader Lee Seon-ok of the Damyang Human Rights Support Counseling Center for their dedication to protecting the human rights and promoting the welfare of women and children, encouraging their efforts.
All attendees also participated in a flash mob titled "Dancing Peace," expressing their desire for the eradication of violence against women and peace through movement.
Following this, a special lecture was held by Hwang Geum-myeong-ryun, director of the Gender Education Platform Hyojae, on the topic of "Measures to Prevent Digital Sexual Crimes," providing a meaningful opportunity to raise awareness about digital sexual crimes and to commit to preventing them together.
As a side event, a flea market and institution promotion booths operated by the Jeonnam Women’s Human Rights Organization Federation were held, along with an eco-bag making experience event.
Yu Mi-ja, Director of Women and Family Policy at Jeonnam Province, stated, “To create a safe Jeonnam free from sexual violence, all residents need small attention, active actions, and courage,” and urged, “Please join us in efforts to eliminate blind spots in violence against women with the mindset that our attention becomes a beacon protecting a safe and peaceful daily life for everyone.”
