Gwangyang Port Container Terminal Revitalization Grand Forum Successfully Held
Participation of Related Organizations, Diagnosis of Issues and Tasks at Container Terminal
Collaborative Discussion on Roles and Support Measures by Each Organization
Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, YGPA) announced that it held the "2nd Grand Forum on Revitalizing Gwangyang Port Container Terminal" on the 28th at the 2nd-floor international conference hall.
The forum was conducted in two sessions: Session 1, which included a progress report on the 1st grand forum and presentations on response strategies for revitalizing the Gwangyang Port container terminal, and Session 2, which involved discussions on measures and suggestions for revitalizing the Gwangyang Port container terminal.
Additionally, participants were divided into groups representing Gwangyang Port-related associations, users, and service providers to engage in passionate discussions on revitalizing the Gwangyang Port container terminal.
In Session 1, Lee Kyung-ha, Head of Marketing at Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, presented an analysis of the impact of changes in the shipping market on Gwangyang Port, as well as the efforts and achievements of YGPA to recover cargo volume. He proposed strategies for securing cargo volume at Gwangyang Port, including securing hinterland cargo, strengthening regular shipping routes, improving operational efficiency, and supplying port facilities.
Following this, Kim Gyu-kyung, CEO of Hanjin Busan Container Terminal, gave a presentation on the operation of Busan Port’s container terminal and offered suggestions for revitalizing Gwangyang Port. In particular, by comparing and analyzing the facilities, equipment, and cargo volume status of Busan New Port, attendees were able to gauge the direction Gwangyang Port should take moving forward.
In Session 2, the shipping and port opinion leader group emphasized the necessity of attracting transshipment cargo to Gwangyang Port and sought cooperation for securing container volume and improving facility conditions through active collaboration among related organizations of Gwangyang Port.
The user group analyzed the current conditions of Gwangyang Port, identified existing problems, and proposed solutions. They also shared ideas on ways to generate cargo volume at Gwangyang Port.
Lastly, the service provider group requested efforts and cooperation to revitalize the Gwangyang Port rail yard, improve productivity, and enhance services.
President Park Seong-hyun stated, “Through the suggestions and opinions of various experts, we have been able to consider the direction Gwangyang Port should take to revitalize its container terminal,” adding, “I ask all stakeholders, including Gwangyang Port users, local governments, and political circles, to unite their efforts so that the opinions raised at today’s forum can be practically reflected in the revitalization of Gwangyang Port.”
President Park also added, “We will continue to strive tirelessly to ensure that the revitalization of Gwangyang Port contributes to the development of the national economy and local communities.”
