Democratic Party: "Presidential Office Must Provide Responsible Explanation on Kim Geon-hee's Luxury Bag Receipt Allegation"
The Democratic Party of Korea on the 28th demanded a "responsible explanation" regarding the gift suspicion that First Lady Kim Geon-hee received a luxury bag.
Park Seong-jun, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing on the same day, "A YouTube channel claimed that on September 13 last year, First Lady Kim Geon-hee received an expensive luxury bag as a gift from Mr. Choi and released a video filmed at the time," adding, "Did the First Lady receive an expensive luxury bag from Mr. Choi? If so, did she return it or does she still possess it? What is the position of the Presidential Office? We demand clarification."
Earlier, the YouTube channel Seoul's Voice released a video showing Mr. Choi meeting the First Lady on September 13 last year and presenting her with a luxury bag worth 3 million won. The video was reportedly filmed by Mr. Choi using a wristwatch equipped with a camera.
Spokesperson Park pointed out, "If the YouTube channel's claim is true, it is a clear violation of the Kim Young-ran Act," and added, "It must also be clarified whether this was a bribe with consideration." He further demanded the Presidential Office to clarify "the reason for meeting Mr. Choi, who gave the luxury bag, and whether there was any inappropriate solicitation."

Regarding the Presidential Office's statement that "there is no need to comment even to YouTube," Spokesperson Park criticized, "Does it matter which media outlet reported it?" and said, "The Presidential Office is ignoring the seriousness of the matter and consistently dismissing it." He added, "The Presidential Office is not a place to evaluate media outlets but a place that must responsibly explain whether the President's wife committed any illegal acts."
