Professor Yu Cheol-gyu of Seoul National University Hospital Elected President of the Asia-Pacific Respiratory Society
Seoul National University Hospital announced on the 28th that Professor Yu Cheol-gyu of the Department of Respiratory Medicine was elected as the next president of the 27th Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), held on the 16th. His term will be two years, starting from November 2023.
The Asian Pacific Society of Respirology, established in 1983 to promote and encourage research in the field of respiratory medicine, is one of the five most prestigious societies worldwide. This is the second time since 2008 that a Korean researcher has been elected as the president of APSR, marking the first time in 15 years.
Professor Yu stated, “Although the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology has grown significantly in quantity so far, it still lags behind the American and European respiratory societies in terms of quality. During my term, I will strive to establish institutional measures to achieve qualitative improvement of the society.”

Meanwhile, Professor Yu Cheol-gyu has served as the president of the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases and the chairman of the Korean Association of Internal Medicine. He is an expert in the respiratory field who has continuously conducted research on the pathogenesis of acute lung injury and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
