Daejeon City-KAIST "Full-Scale Training of AI Semiconductor Specialists"
Daejeon City and KAIST are joining forces to train specialized personnel in artificial intelligence semiconductors.
According to Daejeon City on the 28th, KAIST officially opened the "Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor" (hereinafter referred to as the Graduate School) on the same day.
Artificial intelligence semiconductors refer to system semiconductors that execute large-scale computations required for AI services at ultra-high speed and ultra-low power.
In May, KAIST was selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's support project for the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor, establishing the basis for the Graduate School's establishment and operation.
Over the next six years, KAIST plans to nurture 165 creative and convergent talents capable of semiconductor design, manufacturing, and application at the Graduate School.
To train specialized personnel, KAIST will promote practical research on AI algorithms, circuits, and chip design, industry-academia joint projects, and introduce a multiple advisory system for convergent education and research that transcends academic fields.
Additionally, strategic global cooperative education in next-generation fields will be conducted with prestigious universities in the United States and Europe.
In line with KAIST's selection for the Graduate School support project, Daejeon City allocated a related budget in May to support the training of specialized personnel at the Graduate School. A total of 4.9 billion KRW will be invested over the next six years to nurture talent in artificial intelligence semiconductors.
Daejeon City is also planning to foster the AI semiconductor industry by applying domestically produced artificial intelligence semiconductors to the AI CCTV system at City Metro Line 1 City Hall Station as a practical demonstration project, and by promoting cooperation among fabless companies and AI semiconductor innovation institutions.
