Why Did Park Jung-hwa, Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee, Visit the Sinnae Vehicle Depot?
Inspection of Line 6 Subway Maintenance and Safe Operation... Active Request to Ensure Safety Across All Subway Areas and Seek Harmony with Local Residents
The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Transportation Committee (Chairman Park Jung-hwa, People Power Party, Seongdong 1) visited the Sinnae Vehicle Depot located in Sinnae-dong, Jungnang-gu on the 23rd during the 321st regular session to inspect subway maintenance and safe operation status and to encourage the officials.
The on-site inspection was attended by members of the Transportation Committee including Chairman Park Jung-hwa, Chairman Min Byung-joo of the Housing and Space Committee, officials from Seoul Metro, and Jungnang-gu Office. After receiving a business report at the comprehensive management building within the Sinnae Vehicle Depot, they toured the inspection shed and the idle sports facilities.
The Sinnae Vehicle Depot, which began construction in 1993 and opened in June 2000, houses all the trains of Seoul Metro Line 6. It is responsible for train storage, inspection, and maintenance in facilities such as the comprehensive management building, inspection shed, and tracks. Additionally, the depot includes Sinnae Station on Line 6 and a transfer station above it where the metropolitan subway Gyeongchun Line passes, both currently in operation.
Notably, Line 6 is the only line in Seoul that connects the areas north of the Han River, operating 170 trips daily between Bonghwasan Station and Eungam Station, with an average operating distance of 17,240 km and transporting an average of 467,000 passengers daily.
The Transportation Committee members grasped the maintenance and management status of the Sinnae Vehicle Depot, a national security facility, through business reports and Q&A sessions.
They engaged in broad and sharp discussions on reducing intervals through the use of reserve trains, congestion management, stable operation plans in case of train breakdowns, subway disinfection to prevent bedbug outbreaks amid recent controversies, and improvement plans for idle sports facilities (soccer field, baseball field).
