Japan Yahoo: "Possibility of 440,000 Personal Information Records Leaked Due to Cyber Attack"
Japan's Line Yahoo announced on the 27th that there is a possibility that 440,000 pieces of personal information of Line application users, business partners, and employees have been leaked.
The specific leaked information includes Line app users' age, gender, purchase history, as well as the names and email addresses of business partner employees.
Line Yahoo explained the cause of this damage by stating, "There was unauthorized access by a third party on October 9th through our affiliated company, Korea's Naver Cloud."
An employee of a company entrusted with work alongside Naver Cloud was subjected to a cyberattack, and it appears that this incident also caused damage to Line Yahoo, which shares some systems with Naver, the company added.
There have been no reported cases of additional damage caused by the use of the leaked personal information. According to Kyodo News, Line Yahoo contacted the individuals whose personal information was leaked and urged them to be cautious to avoid fraud damage.
Line Yahoo is a company established in October by merging "LINE" and "Yahoo Japan," subsidiaries of Japan Z Holdings, a joint venture between Naver and SoftBank.
