Dong-A University Wins Grand Prize and Excellence Award at Media Literacy Competition
Students from the Department of Media Communication at Dong-A University won the Grand Prize and Excellence Award at the Media Literacy Competition hosted by the Korea Communications Agency.
The Busan Media Literacy Competition, co-hosted by the city of Busan, is an event where Busan citizens verify (fact-check) the authenticity of digital media information and submit activity sheets and card news documenting the verification process for awards. The theme of this year's second competition was "Correcting Media Information We Encounter in Everyday Life."
The "Busanhaeng" team, consisting of Lee Junhee and Lee Seungwoo from Dong-A University's Department of Media Communication, received the Grand Prize for their entry titled "Is the Subway Deficit Due to Free Rides for the Elderly?"
Students Je Seo-hyun and Song Yoo-jin, together with Kim Ji-min (a graduate of Dong-Eui University's Department of Mass Communication), formed the "Jingyeogui Fact" joint team and fact-checked "Are Busan Citizens Receiving the Maximum Monthly Dongbaek Pass Refund of 45,000 Won?" to win the Excellence Award.

He added, "I hope more people will participate in this competition so that a culture of critically accepting and interpreting various types of media information will become more widespread."
Kim Dae-kyung, the academic advisor for the Department of Media Communication, stated, "In the digital era, the ability to fact-check and verify news and information amid information overload is an essential quality and skill for digital citizens," adding, "It is especially meaningful that students who participated as fact-check researchers received awards in a real-world setting."
