Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate the ‘Gwacheon Science Museum Experience Program’ to foster future talents by encouraging children’s curiosity and interest in science.
The ‘Gwacheon Science Museum Experience Program’ is a program where 810 middle school students will visit the National Gwacheon Science Museum over six sessions from November 28 to December 15. In April, more than 600 elementary school students already participated, and the response was positive, describing it as a time when science became more approachable.
This time, reflecting the opinions of students who participated in April, the program has expanded hands-on activity time where children can directly engage. Through this, the district aims for children to develop interest in various fields of science and technology and freely cultivate their imagination.
The ‘Gwacheon Science Museum Experience Program’ is broadly divided into exhibition participation and hands-on experience. Children visit themed exhibition halls such as the Natural History Hall, Advanced Technology Hall, Science Exploration Hall, and Future Imagination Science Fiction (SF) Hall under the guidance of science interpreters, encountering diverse fields of science ranging from life and nature, basic science, astronomy and space, to advanced technology.
Additionally, by directly experiencing play facilities designed based on scientific principles (such as standing wheels, arch bridges, whirlpools) and games (virtual reality sports, etc.), children discover various sciences not only in textbooks but also in daily life, and envision the future brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
So far, the district has signed a business agreement with the Gwacheon Science Museum and linked 80 types of science principle experience contents from the museum with school lessons to help students easily grasp scientific principles. It has been making multifaceted efforts to nurture creative future science talents who will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
In the future, the district plans to prepare specialized lectures in promising new technology fields such as advanced robotics and aerospace, as well as overseas advanced science culture experience programs to revitalize science education.
