70-Year-Old Man Arrested and Indicted for Stabbing Incident in Front of Yongsan Presidential Office
A man in his 70s who injured a police officer by wielding a weapon in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office has been brought to trial while in custody.
On the 24th, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Nae-geon) announced that Park Mo (77), who is accused of attempted murder and injury to a public official during the execution of duty, was indicted while in custody.
Park is accused of injuring two police officers belonging to the 202 Security Unit, responsible for outer perimeter security of the Presidential Office, by wielding a weapon in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office at around 1:20 p.m. on the 31st of last month. During the process of subduing Park, the police officers sustained injuries to their arms and abdomen respectively and were transported to the hospital.
It was investigated that Park committed the crime under a mental illness condition with delusions against state institutions. The prosecution seized his mobile phone and medical records to clarify the motive for the crime and requested a clinical psychological analysis from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.

A prosecution official stated, "Considering the high risk of reoffending by (Park), we have requested an electronic monitoring order and probation order," adding, "To prevent reoffending, we plan to request special compliance measures such as a ban on carrying weapons and professional medical treatment under the supervision of a probation officer."
