Goryeong-gun Visits Laos for Seasonal Worker Recruitment
The delegation from Goryeong County, Gyeongbuk Province (led by Lee Nam-chul, Governor of Goryeong County) visited Laos to discuss the recruitment of foreign seasonal workers and the selection of workers for the first half of next year.
This visit to Laos follows the signing of the "Goryeong County-Laos Foreign Seasonal Worker Recruitment MOU" in June, when the Minister of Labor, Social Welfare of Laos and the delegation visited Goryeong County.
The delegation, consisting of a total of 10 members including Lee Nam-chul, Governor of Goryeong County, Kim Myung-guk, Chairman of the Goryeong County Council, Councilor Sung Won-hwan, the Director of Agricultural Policy Division, and the officer in charge of eco-friendly agriculture, visited Laos to actively inspect the progress of the foreign seasonal worker project, assess the local situation, and directly convey the county’s requests.
Starting with a meeting with the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare and the Director of Employment Bureau of Laos on the 22nd, the delegation plans to carry out subsidiary consultations, select seasonal workers, visit agricultural sites in Laos, and then return home.
The county has been striving to diversify sending countries and local governments to ensure the stable recruitment of foreign seasonal workers, and plans to deploy Laotian workers in the public seasonal worker program operated by NongHyup in the first half of next year.
Governor Lee Nam-chul said, “Since the recruitment of foreign seasonal workers began this year and has greatly helped the local agricultural field, we will focus on expanding the pool of excellent seasonal workers and enhancing the stability of the project by diversifying the sources of manpower supply. We hope that this recruitment of Laotian seasonal workers will serve as a turning point.”
